I am always a little reluctant to invest money in computer equipment and I have to be convinced that I am making a wise decision first. This is the main reason that I have just recently purchased an Epson Perfection 4490 Photo Scanner. I looked at all of the scanners and tried to learn as much as I could about them for months before making my final choice. The main thing that I wanted was an easy to use scanner that I could use at home. The Epson Perfection 4490 Photo scanner had the features I wanted and the price was very affordable.

My biggest concern was making sure that I selected a scanner that would handle negatives and slides as well as a huge variety of other pictures. I feel that the ability to adapt to any of these challenges is where the Perfection 4490 photo scanner excels. In addition to text, slides, negatives and black and white photos the Perfection 4490 can even be used to capture those images from those old films that your parents or grandparents may have lying around. To me being able to bring these scanned memories brought to colorful life is a priceless opportunity.

From the moment I began to use my scanner 4490 it worked like a champ. In just under 3 weeks I have been able to scan over 1000 individual photos and negatives. I am very happy with the color quality and imaging that resulted from the negatives. I am only an amateur photographer but I am willing to bet that these results would please almost anyone. One of the other areas where the Epson Perfection 4490 shines is in restoring the colors and clear images to older slides. The Digital Ice program was able to make almost all of my treasured slides better than new. The software is not very fast but it does a superb job when it comes to cleaning these images up.

Even my parents have learned how to operate the Perfection 4490 photo and they are helping me with the task of creating unique family photo albums. There are a few pictures that have had to be rescanned but this only takes a few minutes and is not a big issue. We have all learned to keep checking the images as we go along and stay on top of the progress.

I have even used my Epson Perfection 4490 photo scanner to scan pages and documents and am thoroughly satisfied with the results each time. Some of the scanners might be a bit faster than the Epson Perfection 4490 photo scanner but I believe that the quality and clarity of image and colors more than makes up for a slightly longer processing time.
